Note: In Fall 2023, this course was Advanced Readings in Japanese Constitutional Law.
Course Description (Fall 2025):
Prerequisite: By permission of instructor. Because the readings are in Japanese, students should have the equivalent of at least two years’ language instruction, but the difficulty of the materials will be adjusted to the reading levels of the students (and the class can be split if necessary). Native speakers of Japanese are welcome to attend, but may not take the course for credit. Students who are unsure whether the class is appropriate for them should contact Professor Ramseyer by email ([email protected]).
Exam Type: No Exam
In this offering, students will read a wide variety of law-related materials in the original Japanese language. Class discussion will cover both any language questions that arise, and the substance of the material discussed.
Materials to be read will be determined on the first day of class.
