We were delighted to welcome Ewan Smith (LL.M. 2003) back to campus this week. On May 10, a group of faculty, Visiting Scholars and students gathered to discuss Ewan’s current book project, which examines the nature of unwritten constitutions, how they relate to written constitutions and why we should tolerate them, focusing on the U.S., U.K. and China.

Alice Izumo has joined EALS as Associate Director. From 2014 to summer 2022, she was a reference librarian and lecturer in law at Columbia Law School, where she taught legal research classes and provided reference assistance on U.S. and international law.
On September 14, Professor Mark Wu testified at a hearing on “The Future of U.S.-Taiwan Trade” before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means.
Professor Mark Wu has been appointed Faculty Director of Harvard University’s Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies, one of the world’s foremost research centers on China.
